Submission Guidelines
The Michigan Poet publishes poetry from poets living in Michigan and distributes exclusively to Michigan communities. We believe it is important for people to see and hear poets within their own community, so we only consider work from poets currently living in Michigan.
The Michigan Poet seeks poems less than 25 lines that are accessible to readers of all ages and interest levels. Poems should be appropriate for all-ages and suitable for school environments, so poems that are vulgar for the sake of vulgarity are non-starters.
Submit up to three poems in one document please.
We consider previously-published work if acknowledgment is provided.
General Submission
The Michigan Poet seeks poems less than 25 lines that are accessible to readers of all ages and interest levels. Poems should be appropriate for all-ages and suitable for school environments.
There has never and will never be a submission fee.
Submit up to three poems in one document please. Acceptable digital files formats are .doc .docx .odt .txt .rtf .pdf. We do not accept hard copy submissions.
Previously published poems with acknowledgments are welcome. Simultaneous submissions are also welcome, though we expect notification if the work is accepted elsewhere.
All submissions will receive a receipt of consideration. A poem submitted in January may not be published until November. We seek to run the best work at the best time. Don't hesitate to submit your poem elsewhere. We may still accept your poem, even if published elsewhere.
We typically print quarterly broadsides (tabloid size—11 × 17) and distribute to communities, and we also publish monthly poems on our website. The hi-res PDF and/or two copies of the print broadsides are provided as payment.
